The Green split pea is quite popular in the West of Europe and it is a fabulous base for an ultra cheap but delicious and healthy pea soup. The skin of this pulse has been removed, which is why the green pea splits in two. It is also the reason why the split pea is perfect for soft and creamy soups, sauces and purees.
Split peas do not need to be soaked. Boil them until they fall apart, which will take approximately 1 hour. It is no problem to add salt during boiling.
When you keep them in a dark and dry place they keep very well for at least one year.
